Holy Cross Open school, Mira Road
It’s a Hindi medium open school from Balwadi to Std. IV for children of the slums. The aim is to give good education so that they live dignified life, are able to cope up with the stressful world and become good citizens. The children who study here are mostly from poor families. Some are even below poverty line. Few of them go for work early morning; come to school in the afternoon and after 6 P.M. they are again for work. Along with the subjects they do have co-curricular activities such as singing, dancing, drawing, craft, games etc and the various competitions are conducted for them, sports days and annual days are celebrated, and a day is allotted for picnic. The children are motivated to appear for scholarship exams. They are provided with stationary items, uniform, books, raincoat, umbrella and other needs. The parents are motivated to educate their children and taught about the hygiene.
