Holy Cross Convent, Ambaulim
To engage in socio pastoral work
Socio cultural background:
Earlier the people here were idol worshippers. Their faith in God was feeble. Most of the men were drinking liquor and dying at the young age and because of this there were many widows in the village. Most of them were uneducated. Women take the responsibility of the family. The parents felt the need of educating their children since they themselves were not educated. They found it hard and not safe to send their children far away school as the road used to be busy with mining trucks. Sensing this need the sisters began English medium school up to Std. IV. The people are Catholics and most of them belong to tribal groups.
Community and Apostolate now:
All three sisters in the community teach in the school and also take care of socio- pastoral work such as teaching catechism, conducting meetings of Legion of Mary, SVP, AA group, self help groups, SCC, visiting families, taking tuitions for weaker students etc. The school got government recognition and salary grants last year.
