Holy Cross Convent, Devala

The purpose was to reach out to the under privileged (Tribals and Srilankan repatriates.) through medical, socio pastoral and later education.

Socio-cultural background
Devala is a village consists of tribals, sri Lankan repatriates and settlers from other parts of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. The main occupation of the people is in the tea gardens. Some work in abandoned gold mines. People are hard working and peace loving. Majority are economically poor. Though they are of different cultures there is adaptability and unity.

Community and apostolate
Apostolate: Health Centre, Farm, Pre-Primary, Primary, High School, Pastoral work

The community consists of 8 sisters. Some of them are engaged in imparting education in English medium school upto Std. 10. Some of them render their service in health care center. The sisters also take catechism class, help in the sacristy, visit the families, attend SCC meetings and go to the substations.
